Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the "voluntary decision to contribute to the advancement of society and the protection of the environment by including social and environmental concerns in business operations and interactions with stakeholders" as defined in 2001 in the European Commission's Green Paper.

The action programme is divided into 17 points focusing on people, the planet and welfare and was signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 UN member states.
